Terms of Service

By creating an account or using ShadowCypher (the "Service"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service. Plain English version below — no fine print games.

1. The Service

ShadowCypher is a security platform that helps you scan, monitor, and audit networks and devices you own or have explicit written permission to test. The free tier and the source code are licensed under the project's open-source license. Paid tiers (Guardian Pro, Operator) add hosted features like continuous monitoring, alerts, and AI assistance.

2. Acceptable use

You may:

• Use ShadowCypher to monitor and audit your own networks and devices.
• Use it to test networks where you have explicit written authorization (e.g., authorized pentesting engagements, your employer's environment, your own lab).
• Self-host the open-source code and modify it under the license terms.

You may NOT:

• Use ShadowCypher to scan, attack, or interfere with networks or systems you don't own or have explicit permission to test. Doing so likely violates computer fraud laws in your jurisdiction (CFAA in the US, Computer Misuse Act in the UK, similar elsewhere). We don't help with that and we'll terminate accounts engaging in it.
• Use the Service to harass, dox, surveil, or stalk anyone.
• Resell hosted access to the Service without our written agreement.
• Reverse-engineer the hosted backend in an attempt to bypass authentication, billing, or rate limits.
• Use the Service in ways that violate sanctions or export-control law.

3. Account responsibility

You're responsible for keeping your password and API keys secret. If your key is compromised, rotate it from the dashboard. We're not responsible for losses caused by your credentials being exposed.

4. Subscriptions and billing

• Free tier: free forever, subject to feature limits documented on the pricing page.
• Trial: new accounts get 14 days of Guardian Pro features automatically. No card required for the trial.
• Paid plans: billed monthly via Stripe. You can cancel anytime through the Customer Portal — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds: we offer pro-rated refunds within the first 7 days of a new subscription. After that, no refunds for partial months. Email billing@shadowcypher.site with your request.
• Price changes: we'll email you 30 days before any price increase. You can cancel before the change takes effect.
• Failed payments: if a payment fails, we'll retry over 7 days. After that, your account downgrades to the free tier. Your data is preserved — you can re-subscribe anytime.

5. Service availability

We aim for high availability but make no specific uptime guarantee for free or Guardian Pro tiers. Operator tier has a 99.5% uptime SLA — if we miss it in a given month, we'll credit you that month's fee. Scheduled maintenance is announced 24 hours in advance when possible.

6. Your data

Your data belongs to you. We store it to operate the Service. You can export or delete it at any time. Full details in the Privacy Policy.

7. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms (especially the acceptable-use rules above) — usually after a warning, immediately for serious violations. We'll provide a reasonable export window if termination is for non-payment or minor violations.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is". ShadowCypher is a tool — it cannot guarantee the security of any network or device. You're responsible for validating findings and acting on them. We disclaim warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose to the maximum extent allowed by law.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, our total liability under these terms is limited to the amount you've paid for the Service in the past 12 months. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages (lost profits, lost data outside our control, etc.).

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state of operation of the Service owner, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to arbitration unless prohibited by your local consumer-protection law (in which case the local rules apply).

11. Changes to these terms

If we materially change these terms, we'll email you 14 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date counts as acceptance. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account before then.
